Ode to PoetryOh, Poetry, how much I despise thee!
Those stupid, silly, and somewhat strange words
Make me want to drown myself in the sea
And have my eyes plucked out by possessed birds.
It's so stupid! Honestly, what's the point?
Who, in their right mind, really likes this crap?
The rhyme, the rhythm, and rhapsody of it
Makes me want to remove my jaw from joint,
Put two tons of hot coals into my lap,
And fall into a giant deadly pit.
Gah! It doesn't make any sense at all!
All the undecipherable meanings
Eventually makes me wanna bawl
And go running off with all of my bearings.
These poets are weird, I'm sure you see that;
From Keats to Shelley, both who were crazy,
To Dickinson, the first true emo chick,
All have turned me into a loony bat
With their words that made my thoughts hazy,
And eerie metaphors that made me sick.
A Sonnet for HimJason, you are why my heart keeps beating.
You make life an adventure ev'ry day:
From this life's strenuous and dull seating,
You make it more fun in your own strange way.
You make me laugh with you sill actions
And your sweet gestures always make me swoon.
I do not understand your attraction
To me, but I know I will see it soon.
I love how you play the guitar and sing
With a voice full of soul and emotion
And how you know exactly what to bring
When broken legs keep me from all motion.
And even when I'm old and I tire,
You'll always know how to light my fire.
